Some Very Strange Laws…

Hey everyone! Hope that wherever you are, you and your family are well and safe. We are living in some trying times and it can be easy to be overwhelmed by all the dire statistics and stories on the news. So for a break and hopefully a chuckle, I want to let you know some of the strangest laws around the world.

  1. In England, posting a letter with the stamp upside down could get you in jail! The stamp bears The Queen’s image and hence is considered treason – which is punishable by life imprisonment (It used to be death, before a 1998 amendment!)

2. In 15th Century Turkey, a woman could lawfully divorce her husband for not giving her enough coffee. The Turks love their coffee.

3. Chewing gum is completely illegal in Singapore. Yes, you read that right, not just throwing chewing gum on the ground, but the sales or consumption of gum has been banned since 1992. The only exceptions are for medicinal purposes.

4. In Bangladesh, once you are over 15, you can be sent to jail for cheating in exams. Expulsion doesn’t seem so cruel anymore…

5. In March 2015, Ireland accidentally legalised ketamine ecstacy and magic mushrooms! Thankfully, it was only for 48 hours.

If you like this let me know, and I’ll find some more crazy laws around the world!
