The Worlds Best Killer or a Phenomenal Blunder?

Let’s set the scene. Germany, 2009. The police have found evidence that “she” was at this crime-scene too. This wasn’t the second, or third crime scene. It was crime scene No. 40. And all the red strings from across the nation lead to this mysterious, adept and deadly woman.

All roads lead to “The Woman without a Face”

Among the most infamous homicides linked to Her, is the tragic homicide of a policewoman in Heilbronn Germany, Michele Kiesewetter . That one hits a little too close to home for the top detectives and the police force, who have been hunting this shadow of a woman for several years. Aside from this homicide, Her DNA is found on a vast range of items, from cookies, to heroin syringes, to stolen cars. Her presence spans miles and years, with cold cases as old as 1993 linked to this woman. It also spans a multitude of crimes from theft to homicide. A €300,000 reward is offered for anyone who knows Her whereabouts. After exhausting highly specialised technology at their disposal, the police even consult fortune tellers to find Her.

Unsurprisingly, there is extensive news coverage of this killer. “Phantom of Heilbronn” and “The Woman without A Face” are sprawled across tabloid covers. The story of “Mrs. X” intrigues and worries the nation. Perhaps it is because this profile is jarringly different to the typical portrait of a serial killer. Statistically, there aren’t many serial killers who are women. Or perhaps it is this killer’s ability to evade the police while doing the most heinous crimes. Or maybe it’s the randomness of the crimes with no clear motive, or pattern to follow. In the confluence of these factors, “Mrs X” becomes a national and international celebrity and the case is named “the most mysterious serial crime of the past century.”

The Heilbronn Police alone, works 16,000 hours overtime in pursuit of this killer. Yet they’ve missed something. They are looking in the wrong place, following the wrong leads. So who is “Mrs. X” and how has she killed so many? How do they find her and how has she evaded them for so long?
